Larry Bass takes 100% control of ShinAwil in Share Buyback from Screentime
02 Oct 2015 : Seán Brosnan
ShinAwil CEO Larry Bass
In a mutually agreed share buyback, Larry Bass the CEO of Irish company Screentime ShinAwiL, is taking 100% control of the company and reverting to the original name - ShinAwiL.

Screentime ShinAwiL was a joint venture agreed between Bass and the Australian company Screentime Pty in 2003, following the production of the Irish series of’ Popstars’. Screentime subsequently became part of the Banijay Group of companies in 2012.

Following the share buyback, Banijay and ShinAwiL will continue their successful distribution relationship with Banijay selling ShinAwiL created shows internationally and ShinAwiL shopping shows from the Banijay catalogue in Ireland. Currently Banijay formats ‘Home of the Year’ and ‘Tested on Humans’ are produced by ShinAwiL for RTÉ.

A busy week for ShinAwil has also seen the production company nominated for two awards at the IFTA Gala Television Awards. Their highly successful musical series ‘The Voice of Ireland’ has been nominated in the Entertainment category while ‘Bressie’s Teenage Kicks’ – a show where musician Bressie endeavours to turn Limerick kids lives around using music as a tool – is nominated for Best Reality and Constructed Factual.

Commenting on the deal, Larry Bass, CEO of ShinAwiL said: “We have had a great working partnership with Screentime since 2003 and with Banijay for the last few years. We look forward to building on this relationship with co-productions in the future. Taking on the challenges of expanding the company into new markets and genres is both exciting and scary but we are confident of the future.”

Bob Campbell, Executive Chairman of Screentime said: “We have enjoyed collaborating and working together with ShinAwiL. It has been a great experience working with such a successful and experienced team in Ireland. We would like to wish Larry and the team all the very best as they take back 100% control of ShinAwiL.”

Marco Bassetti, CEO of Banijay Group added:“We are very pleased to continue our successful distribution agreement with ShinAwiL in Ireland and look forward to announcing further mutually rewarding productions in the coming months.”

Founded in 1999, ShinAwiL specialises in entertainment, factual entertainment, live event programming and now scripted drama. Following a joint venture with Screentime, then Screentime ShinAwiL grew to one of the largest and most successful independent production companies in Ireland. In 2009 Screentime ShinAwiL Ltd. opened its first UK office and 2012 saw its first BBC commission. Previous successful titles of ShinAwil include Dragons’ Den, MasterChef Ireland, The Voice of Ireland, Home of the Year and most recently Tested on Humans.
