Dublin-based Irish film composer Stefan French has been chosen as one of 12 composers, following over 300 submissions worldwide, to participate in the ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop in Los Angeles this summer.
The workshop is regarded as one of the top training opportunities in the world for emerging composers for film, and its list of alumni includes many of the top names currently working within the industry.
The month long workshop gives the participants a one-of-a-kind experience where they will each have an opportunity to record their original composition with an "A list" of Hollywood professionals, including a 60-piece orchestra of LA's finest musicians on a major studio film scoring stage (past recording sessions have taken place on The Newman Scoring Stage at 20th Century Fox), a scoring mixer, professional music editors, copyists and composers acting as coaches and mentors. Previous mentors have included Hans Zimmer, James Newton Howard and John Powell to name a few. In addition, there are "from the horse's mouth" sessions with studio executives, agents, attorneys and music supervisors.
Stefan is currently enrolled in the 'MA in Scoring for Film and Visual Media' course at Pulse College under the 'Conrad Pope Scholarship'. His recent work includes the much talked about fact-based political drama ‘The Guarantee’, as well as IFTA Nominated 'An Ode To Love', on which he recorded the score with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. Also recently completed is the score for 'The Great Wide Open', directed by Ciarán Dooley, which will receive its premiere at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh. He is currently scoring 'I Live For You', produced by Los Angeles based production company Sobini Films. 'I Live For You' is expected for release later this year.
