‘Brooklyn’ was acquired by Fox Searchlight for $9m after very positive reviews at Sundance
Lionsgate UK have announced that they will release highly anticipated period drama ‘Brooklyn’ on November 6th to Irish cinemas.

The film will be getting released on the same day in the US by Fox Searchlight, who acquired the period drama in a $9m deal after it premiered to very positive reviews at Sundance earlier this year. It will be released across the UK on November 27th, also by Lionsgate UK.

Set in the early 1950s, ‘Brooklyn’ is the story of a young woman, Eilis, who moves from small town Ireland to Brooklyn, NY where, unlike home, she has the opportunity for work and for a future - and love, in the shape of Italian-American Tony. When a family tragedy brings her back to Ireland, she finds herself absorbed into her old community, but now with eligible Jim courting her. As she repeatedly postpones her return to America, Eilis finds herself confronting a terrible dilemma - a heart-breaking choice between two men and two countries.

The film stars Saoirse Ronan (‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ and Oscar nominee for ‘Atonement’), Domhnall Gleeson (‘About Time’, ‘Anna Karenina’), Emory Cohen (‘The Place Beyond The Pines’), Jim Broadbent (Oscar winner for ‘Iris’) and Julie Walters (Oscar nominee for ‘Billy Elliot’ and ‘Educating Rita’).

Adapted from Colm Tóibín’s New York Times Bestseller by Nick Hornby (Oscar nominee for ‘An Education’) and directed by John Crowley (‘Intermission’, ‘Boy A’), ‘Brooklyn’ is an Irish/British co-production from Parallel Films, Wildgaze Films, Finola Dwyer Productions and Item 7. Brooklyn was co-financed by the Irish Film Board and filmed on location in Wexford, Dublin and Wicklow, as well as Montreal and New York.

Production design is by François Séguin (‘The Barbarian Invasions’, TV’s ‘The Borgias’) and Yves Bélanger (‘Dallas Buyers Club’) is the Director of Photography. Costumes are by Odile Dicks-Mireaux (BAFTA nominee for ‘An Education’) with make-up design by Morna Ferguson (‘The Guard’).

Lionsgate UK will release ‘Brooklyn’ in cinemas in Ireland on 6 November and across the UK on 27 November.
