Bow Street Announces Three New Courses
23 Oct 2014 : Seán Brosnan
Actor and Filmmaker base Bow Street announced details this week of three new short courses being run over the next three weeks.

‘The Art of Self-Taping Workshop’ run by Casting Director Maureen Hughes (‘Love/Hate’, ‘Once’, ‘Charlie’) runs over two days (October 30th and 31st) and will focus on this essential tool for any actor.

Maureen said: I have seen a very noticeable shift in the industry’s approach to casting. With the ready availability of affordable high quality cameras more actors are choosing to self-tape as it makes sense for everyone involved, it allows the actor to shoot their audition piece in a non-pressure environment and it’s a more cost effective way to cast their projects. I have designed this two day course to provide the actor with the tools to produce strong self-tapes for further auditions. Over the course of the two days the actors will shoot one–to-one auditions with direction and critique from Maureen.

Filmmaker Shimmy Marcus will oversee an intensive two day course on November 8th and 9th on ‘How to make a short film’. Topics that will be covered during the two day course include perfecting the script, planning the shoot, working with actors, covering scenes, post production and promotion including navigating the film festival circuit.

On November 15th and 16th, comedians Al Doyle, PJ Gallagher and Eric Lalor will oversee ‘No Laughing Matter’ an introduction to the business of comedy. The intensive two day course will cover all aspects of comedy including breaking down comedy structures, building plots and character and looking at the business side of the business. Al Doyle, who will host the two days, said: More and more men and women are taking the business of comedy very seriously. This course will give people a real inside understanding of the craft of the business from writing to performance.
