Irish short films continue to be selected for film festivals, receive award nominations and secure special screenings nationally and internationally…

‘The Missing Scarf’ Nominated for the European Film Awards 2014

The European Film Academy and EFA Productions have announced this year's short film nominations. The Valladolid Film Festival was one of the participating festivals and as the winner of the Valladolid Short Film award, Eoin Duffy’s ‘The Missing Scarf’ is one of the EFA nominees.

Alongside the other nominated films, the animated short will be submitted to over 3,000 EFA Members to elect the winner. The European Short Film 2014 will then be presented at the European Film Awards Ceremony in Riga on Saturday, 13 December.

‘The Missing Scarf’ has received 16 international awards including wins at the San Francisco Film Festival, Savannah Film Festival, and many others. It was also shortlisted for last year’s Academy Awards. The film can be viewed online now at themissingscarf.com.

‘Darkroom’ for Feminist Film Festival in Michigan

Short film ‘Darkroom’, starring Seana Kerslake (IFTA nominee for ‘Dollhouse’, ‘The Lobster’, ‘Mammal’) and Eliott Moriarty (‘A Nightingale Falling’), was recently shown at the Grand Rapids Feminist Film Festival on September 21st in Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA. The festival, founded in 2009, centres around films by female filmmakers and topics including feminism, activist and social justice.

Darkroom is the story of a young couple whose fate is determined by the developing of a photograph.

The film was shot in Dublin, written and directed by Nora Windeck, directed by Eoin Heaney (‘Long Is The Way’, ‘Foreclosed’, ‘Turning’), shot by Eamon Nolan (who recently received a Special Mention for his camerawork on short film ‘The Swing’ at the Galway Film Fleadh 2014) and edited by Fernando de Juan.

‘The Prescription’ has World Premiere

Last week, ‘The Prescription’ had its world premiere as part of the Irish Shorts Selection at the Edmonton International Film Festival on Saturday week. The plot sees a tough biker stumble into a pharmacy seeking relief from his worrying medical condition, and getting more than he bargained for.

‘The Prescription’ stars Patrick Murphy (‘Love/Hate’), Vanessa Keogh (‘Lucky Escape’, ‘The Tudors’), and Sophie Keogh in her film debut. It was shot in one day on location in Dublin on a very small budget.

‘The Portrait’ nominated for a BAFTA Cymru

A short film by Blinder Films called ‘The Portrait’ has been nominated for a BAFTA Cymru in the short form category.

The short was recently shown in a special screening along with another nomination, ‘American Interior’, at Chapter in Cardiff, Wales. It portrays a young art student painting a portrait of her aging grandfather as her mother is forced to confront a past she has been trying to forget.

The BAFTA Cymru winners will be announced at the award ceremony on Sunday 26 October in Wales Millennium Centre.
