Jamie Dornan Joins Thriller ‘Ninth Life of Louis Drax’

Miramax has cast ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ and ‘The Fall’ actor Jamie Dornan in the psychological thriller ‘The Ninth Life of Louis Drax’. Alexandre Aja (‘Horns’) will direct from a script by actor Max Minghella (‘The Internship’, ‘The Ides of March’) in his feature screenwriting debut.

Minghella will also produce with Tim Bricknell (‘The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency’) of Antcolony Films, Shawn Williamson (‘The Interview’, ‘50/50’) of Brightlight Pictures and Aja. The film will be exec produced by Rosanne Korenberg. The Canada UK co-production is due to commence shooting in Vancouver in October.

Director Aja stated, “Max’s script takes us on a very emotional journey through the deep recesses of the mind and on a suspenseful Hitchcockian ride. I was drawn to the poignant family drama and the supernatural elements, and am excited to bring this rich and complex story to life.”

Based on Liz Jensen’s novel of the same name, the plot follows Louis Drax who suffers a near-fatal fall on his 9th birthday. In order to reveal the strange circumstances that surround the boy’s accident, Dr. Allan Pascal (Dornan) is drawn into a mystery, testing the boundaries of fantasy and reality.

Thomas J. Barrack, Jr., Chairman of Miramax, said, “This spectacular psychological thriller will be a classic Miramax production. There is no better storyteller in the industry than Max Minghella and no more talented director than Alexandre Aja. Together, they will weave a unique and masterfully crafted script with the bold and powerful talent of Jamie Dornan and his accompanying cast!”

Ruth Bradley for UK Horror ‘Its Walls Were Blood’

The cast and directors for haunted-house horror ‘Its Walls Were Blood’, aiming to shoot later this year, have been confirmed. Steve Oram (‘Sightseers’) and Edward Hogg (‘Anonymous’) are among the cast, while segment writer-directors include Sean Hogan (‘The Devil’s Business’), Paul Hyett (‘The Seasoning House’), Tom Shankland (‘The Children’) and Paul Davis (‘The Body’).

Ruth Bradley is also a confirmed cast member. She would be best-known to Irish audiences for her role as Mary Tracey, Darren’s sister in RTÉ series ‘Love/Hate’. She also played Garda Lisa Nolan in comedy ‘Grabbers’ and recently shot ‘Pursuit’, directed by Paul Mercier, in Dublin. Also of Irish interest, Pollyanna McIntosh is among the cast for ‘Its Walls Were Blood’ too. McIntosh stars in Brendan Muldowney’s ‘Love Eternal’ and in Irish horror ‘Let Us Prey’.

Additional cast for the UK horror includes Conner Chapman, Rosie Day (‘The Seasoning House’), Sam Gittins (‘Driftwood’), Scott Chambers and Belinda Stewart-Wilson (‘The Inbetweeners 2’).

The film follows four connected stories set throughout a haunted house’s history, from the 19th century to today. Paul Fischer of Ten Cent Adventures will produce with Paul Davis as an executive producer. Stef Hutchinson has co-written the latter’s segment of the portmanteau. XYZ will handle the film’s North American rights.

Martin McCann Among Cast for Zombie thriller ‘Generation Z’

Principal photography has begun on zombie thriller ‘Generation Z’, starring Dougray Scott, Jessica de Gouw and Martin McCann. The film, produced by Matador Pictures, The Captain Starlight Company and UMedia, will be shot on location in Wales and in Mallorca, Spain. UMedia International is handling world sales.

Set in the wake of an apocalyptic zombie outbreak, the film centres on Melanie (de Gouw) and her boyfriend Lewis (McCann) who visit a safari retreat called The ReZort where every paying guest has a licence to kill the undead. There they meet Archer (Scott), a former zombie-hunter who has to step up when the security system at the ReZort crashes and unleashes thousands of bloodthirsty zombies back into the wild.

Scott, best-known for his role in ‘Mission:Impossible 2’ and who recently wrapped shooting on ‘Taken 3’, leads the cast. Jessica de Gouw stars in TV series ‘Dracula’ and ‘Arrow’. Belfast-born McCann’s credits include ‘My Boy Jack’, ‘Jump’, and the highly-anticipated thriller ‘’71’. He recently shot ‘The Survivalist’ in Northern Ireland. The supporting cast includes Claire Goose, Jassa Ahluwalia and Elen Rhys.

Steve Barker, the British filmmaker behind Nazi zombie feature ‘Outpost’ and ‘Outpost II’, directs from a script by Paul Gerstenberger. Charlotte Walls of Matador Pictures stated, “We’re thrilled to be partnering with Steve Barker again for ‘Generation Z’ and thanks to Paul Gerstenberger’s smart, elevated script we couldn’t have asked for a better cast to bring this highly original and disturbing story world to life.”
