Post production is now underway on a new independent horror film The Devil’s Woods. Written and directed by Anthony White, the film is about a group of friends who are trying to maintain their fractured relationships. When they are placed in a truly horrendous situation, they must pull together for survival or be literally torn apart.
The film stars up and coming actor Stephen Cromwell who has appeared on Irish screens in John Banville’s film adaptation of ‘The Sea’ alongside Ciaran Hinds. Cromwell also featured in ‘Jack Taylor’, acclaimed TV drama ‘Love/Hate’ and more recently Irish feature ‘The Legend of Longwood’. Another cast member is Eoin Quinn who starred in independent feature ‘Limp’, which was released earlier this year.
The feature also boasts a host of new young Irish talent which includes Danielle Keaney, who plays the female lead, along with Caoimhe Cassidy and Daniel Mahony, the latter of who is currently starring in the successful play 'Coppers Uncovered' which is currently showing in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Anthony White wrote and directed ‘The Devil’s Woods’. His first short ‘6 Degrees of (Limb) Separation’ was made for the ‘666 Shortcuts to Hell’ competition run by Movie Mogul and The Horror Channel. It was the only film made outside that UK that made it into the final selection and it was added to the DVD and iTunes release. White was also the DOP for ‘The Devil’s Woods’ and will also edit the project.
Produced by White and Stephen Cromwell, the horror is currently going through sound design with Brendan Campbell who has worked in the Irish TV and film industry for a number of years and has worked on several major Irish television shows.
Anthony White tells IFTN, “When the film is complete, I hope to enter it into a host of film festivals and see where that takes it. The film itself is a throwback to the horror films of the 70s and 80s, films like ‘The Wicker Man’, ‘Halloween’ and ‘The Texas Chainsaw Massacre’.”
