Luke Evans & Elisabeth Moss Join ‘High-Rise’
26 Jun 2014 : Deirdre Molumby
Welsh actor Luke Evans and American actress Elisabeth Moss have joined the cast of ‘High-Rise’, directed by Ben Wheatley and produced by Jeremy Thomas’ Recorded Picture Company (RPC). Production is scheduled to commence in July in Belfast with financiers including Film4, the BFI Film Fund, Scope Invest Producteurs of Belgium and Northern Ireland Screen.

Luke Evans is best-known for his role as Bard in Peter Jackson’s ‘The Hobbit’ trilogy, though he has also starred in ‘Immortals’ and ‘Fast and Furious 6’. He is due to play the lead in Universal’s ‘Dracula Untold’, scheduled for release this October and helmed by Irish director Gary Shore.

Elisabeth Boss is best-known for her role in ‘Mad Men’. She won a Golden Globe this year for ‘Top of the Lake’ and also stars in ‘On the Road’, ‘Get Him to the Greek’ and ‘Girl, Interrupted.’

The actors will be joining Tom Hiddleston, Sienna Miller and Jeremy Irons in the thriller, as previously reported by IFTN. Other confirmed cast members include James Purefoy, Reece Shearsmith, Peter Ferdinando and comedian Dan Renton Skinner.

The film’s director, Ben Wheatley, is a highly acclaimed British director whose films include ‘Sightseers’, ‘Kill List’ and ‘A Field in England’. He will be working on a script from his regular collaborator, Amy Jump, for ‘High-Rise’, which is based on J.G. Ballard’s novel. Wheatley was recently in Dublin for the John Ford Film Symposium for which he held a workshop and participated in a director’s hub with Whit Stillman, Kieron J Walsh and Ken Girotti.

Wheatley has stated, “Elizabeth Moss and Luke Evans are great additions to our cast. I’m really excited to be working with both of them. I’m looking forward to see what they will bring to the complex relationship between Richard and Helen Wilder.”

Hanway Films is handling international sales for the film, and recently closed deals in Cannes for distribution in the UK and France.

‘High Rise’ centres on a new residential tower built on the eve of Margaret Thatcher’s England. A world apart, the tower seems like a luxurious idyllic place but soon becomes a dystopian nightmare.
