Cast Added to Season 3 of ‘Vikings’
19 Jun 2014 : Deirdre Molumby
Lothaire Bluteau, Jennie Jacques, Kevin Durand
Following the announcement of Ben Robson joining ‘Vikings’, more additions have since been made to the cast for the latest season of the hit History Channel series. ‘Vikings’ follows the adventures of the warrior Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel). The upcoming third season will, like its preceding seasons, be shot in Co. Wicklow with production in Luggala and Ashford Studios. Filming is currently underway.

Lothaire Bluteau is set to play Emperor Charles of France in the new season of the show. Bluteau will be familiar to Irish audiences for his role as Ambassador Charles de Marillac in the popular series ‘The Tudors’, which was also shot in Ireland and created by the same partners as behind ‘Vikings’, Michael Hirst and Morgan O’Sullivan.

Kevin Durand (‘Lost’, ‘The Strain’) will also join the cast of ‘Vikings’ as The Wanderer. Morgane Polanski (‘The Ghost’) has been given the role of Princess Gisla, the elegant self-possessed daughter of Emperor Charles and his most trusted advisor.

Jennie Jacques has also landed a series regular role. She will play Judith, the daughter of Saxon King Aelle and bride to Aethelwulf, son of Saxon King Ecbert. She becomes the mother of historical figure Alfred the Great.

‘Vikings’ is produced by World 2000 Entertainment, Take 5 Productions and MGM Television in association with Shaw Media and with funding from the Irish Film Board. The creator-writer of ‘Vikings’, Michael Hirst, executive produces the series with Irish producer Morgan O’Sullivan.

Other key Irish professionals involved in the production of ‘Vikings’ include director Ciarán Donnelly, Joan Bergin and IFTA-winning production designer Tom Conroy. Approximately 400 Irish people were involved in the production of the first two seasons.
