Fresh from IFTA success, Jamie Doran has been nominated in the Lead Actor category along with a host of other Irish talent for this year's BAFTA Television Awards in London.
Dornan, who won for Actor in a Leading Role Television and also won the Irish Film Board Rising Star Award at the 11th Annual IFTA’s, will go up against Sean Harris (Southcliffe), Luke Newberry (In The Flesh) and Dominic West (Burton and Taylor). Chris O’Dowd is also up for Male Performance in a Comedy Programme for his role in Channel 4’s ‘The IT Crowd’, which will also compete for the Situation Comedy Award against ‘Count Arthur Strong’, both written and directed by Graham Linehan. The event's host and Irish born Graham Norton is nominated for Entertainment Performance and his programme ‘The Graham Norton Show’ is up for Best Comedy and Comedy Entertainment Programme.
Northern Ireland productions nominated are ‘The Fall’ (Best Mini Series) and ‘The Wipers Times’ (Best Single Drama). Other high profile nominations include Olivia Colman (Broadchurch) for Leading Actress; Jerome Flynn (Ripper Street) for Supporting Actor; ‘Dragons’ Den’ for Reality & Constructed Factual; and Shirley Henderson (Southcliffee) for Best Supporting Actress. The nominations for the Soap & Continuing Drama award are: ‘Casualty’, ‘Coronation Street’, ‘EastEnders’ and ‘Holby City’. The International category features crime dramas ‘Borgen’ (Denmark), ‘Breaking Bad’ (USA), political drama ‘House of Cards’ (USA) and French supernatural drama ‘The Returned’. Hoping to make it a hat-trick of BAFTA wins in the Features category is ‘The Great British Bake Off’, nominated alongside ‘The Choir: Sing While You Work’, ‘Grand Designs’ and ‘Long Lost Family’.
