Two Brown Bag Films and one Boulder Media production have been named among the Children’s BAFTA nominations, which were announced this week.
Brown Bag Films’ ‘The Octonauts’ is nominated for Best Pre-School Animation and Doc ‘McStuffins’ for Best International Show.
‘Octonauts’ is based on the childrens’ books by Vicki Wong and Michael C Murphy of Meomi Design. It follows a bunch of animals that live under water and explore different areas via their aquatic vehicles.
Dublin-based animators Brown Bag (‘Give Up Yer Aul Sins’) animated the series, with Silvergate Media, BBC Children and Cbeebies producing.
’Doc McStuffins’ follows six-year-old Doc, who talks to and heals stuffed animals and toys out of her backyard clinic. The series highlights the importance of taking care of oneself and others and places an emphasis on healthy living.
Gillian Higgins (‘Wobblyland’) and Theresa Mayer have produced the series for Brown Bag. Executive producers are Chris Nee, Darragh O’Connell and Brown Bag’s CEO Cathal Gaffney.
The series is directed by Norton Virgien ‘(Rugrats’) and is written and created by Chris Nee (‘Little Bill’).
Boulder’s ‘The Amazing World of Gumball’ has been nominated in two categories this year; the Best Writer and Best Animation categories.
‘The Amazing World of Gumball’, produced by Dublin-based Boulder Media, follows a 12 year-old cat named Gumball and his family, including his former pet fish who is now his adopted brother and a rabbit stay-at-home dad, in the town of Elmore.
The series is produced for Turner Broadcasting’s Cartoon Network by Dandelion Studios Ltd in association with Irish company Boulder Media Ltd and Germany’s Studio Soi.
Boulder Media’s Robert Cullen (‘Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends’) directed the series. Writers James Lamont and Jon Foster are nominated for their work on the series.
The ceremony will be held on Sunday, 24th November at the London Hilton, Park Lane.
