'Ripper Street' Returns to BBC One for Second Series
17 Oct 2013 : by Ruairí Moore
A still from the season's eighth episode, 'Our Betrayal'.
Viewers will once again see Dublin city cast as Victorian London’s East End, as ‘Ripper Street’ returns to our screens on BBC One next Monday the 28th of October.

Production on season two - which audience response saw commissioned before season one had even aired in its entirety - wrapped in late August this year, having taken place in Dublin’s Clancy Barracks, D-Light studios, and various locations around the city itself such as Trinity College Dublin and Great George’s Street.

The series, a continuing co-production between London’s Tiger Aspect and Element Pictures, will delve into darker territory this season. H-Division’s Inspector Reid is increasingly isolated as his partner Sergeant Drake adjusts to family life, while the ailing British Empire sees Whitechapel fall further into decay under a burgeoning drug trade and the growing corruption in London’s police force itself.

Joining series regulars Matthew MacFadyen, Jerome Flynn and Adam Rothenberg this season is Irish actor Damien Molony (‘Being Human’) as Detective Constable Albert Flight, with Martin McCann (‘Shadow Dancer’) and Charlie Murphy (‘Love/Hate’) cast in further featured roles alongside regulars Charlene McKenna (‘Raw’) and David Wilmot (‘The Guard’).

Further Irish representation on set includes producer Ed Guiney; make-up artists Sharon Doyle and Eileen Buggy, costume designer Lorna Marie Mugan, production designer Mark Geraghty and editor Helen Chapman.

‘Ripper Street’ is also co-produced by Lookout Point and has been sold to over 100 countries worldwide. Season 2 will feature eight episodes, the first of which will air at 9 p.m. Monday October 28th.
