Irish short film ‘Kill Your Idols’ is to begin shooting next month in Wicklow with Brendan O’Rourke (Free House) cast in the lead role.
Dublin-based film and animation production house Ink and Light will produce the 12-minute live-action short with Leevi Lemmetty (Papa’s Boy) set to write and direct and Tamsin Lyon set to produce.
The shoot will get underway at the Bray Head Hotel in Bray, Co. Wicklow, on May 17 and will last five days in total.
‘Kill Your Idols’ tells of a young girl who desperately wants to be popular. Upon discovering that her favourite rockstar is staying at her father’s hotel, she spots her chance to gain popularity. All she has to do is find a way to get his autograph any way that she can.
O’Rourke has been cast as fictional rock star Jack Darling while newcomer Lauren Byrne will play Peppy O’Doherty, the young girl.
IFTA award winner Suzie Lavelle (Ondine, The Other Side of Sleep) is the director of photography. Other Irish crew who will work on the project include costume designer: Maura Anglim and make-up artist Terri Pinnell. Englishman Brian Archer is the production designer.
Although self-funded, the film received some financial support from the Finnish Film Foundation and it is hoped it will be completed in time for the Corona Cork Film Festival over November 11-18.
