Ripple World's 'Parked' Wins in Paris, New Projects in Pipeline

Director Darragh Byrne was in Paris last week to collect the MK2 Jameson Best First Feature Award for ‘Parked’ at the Paris Close Up Film Festival. 'Parked' was selected by Irish Distillers Pernod Ricard, the Dublin International Film Festival and the Irish Film Board to represent Ireland at the Festival.
Earlier this year ‘Parked’ was nominated for four IFTA’s and picked up by Olive Films for U.S. and Canadian theatrical distribution prior to Cannes. Colm Meaney (Get Him To The Greek) stars as Fred Daly a proud man living in his car who's lonely world is brightened up when he meets young dope-smoking Cathal played by Colin Morgan (Island). The film also stars Stuart Graham (Grabbers) and Michael McElhatton (Death of a Superhero), David Wilmot (The Guard) and Tatiana Ouliankina (Belonging To Laura).

'Parked' is in Official Competition at the Brussels Film Festival (22nd - 29th June) and will be attended by director Darragh Byrne and lead cast member Colin Morgan who will participate in a Q&A after the first screening on Saturday 25th. As part of the Official Competition the film will screen a second time on Sunday June 26th. The film was produced by Jacqueline Kerrin (Earthbound) and Dominic Wright (Retreat) and written by Ciaran Creagh. ‘Lapland Odyssey’ another Ripple World Pictures co-production directed by Dome Karukoski (Forbidden Fruit) and written by Pekko Pensonen (Over the Fence) will also screen in Brussels in the Panorama section. 'Parked' is the opening night film at the prestigious Galway Film Fleagh next month and Element Pictures Distribution will release the film theatrically day and date in Ireland and the U.K. later this year.

Ripple World Pictures is currently in the final stages of post-production on first time writer-director Alan Brennan's Sci-Fi Rom-Com ‘Earthbound’ at Dublin’s EGG Post Production and Ardmore Sound in Co. Wicklow. Composer Liam Bates is working on the original score for the feature. In ‘Earthbound’ Joe Norman (Rafe Spall) wants the ordinary things in life like a job and a girl but unlike ordinary people he believes he is an alien on the run from intergalactic bounty hunters and must save his home planet from oblivion. The film stars Rafe Spall (Shaun of the Dead), David Morrissey (Blitz), Jenn Murray (Dorothy Mills) and Stephen Hogan (Starship Troopers).

Other projects in the pipeline for Ripple World Pictures include Ivan Kavanagh’s western ‘Where We’ll Never Grow Old’ which follows Irish immigrant Patrick, his German wife Ingrid and their daughter Emma who live in a remote American frontier town until a gang of outlaws take over. Kavanagh co-wrote alongside Colin Downey (Dollhouse). The movie is currently in pre-production and due to shoot later this year.
