RTÉ Looks For Scientist Reports & Christmas Shorts
08 Sep 2010 :
RTE's Kathryn McKiernan
RTÉ Young Peoples Programmes wish to commission both a series of Christmas 'Shorts' which will be broadcast throughout the Young peoples' schedule on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Stephens Day and a series of reports highlighting the build-up to the Young Scientist Competition 2011, for broadcast weekly as part of Two Tube from early November 2010, and on our YPP Young Scientist website online.

Where the Christmas shorts are concerned the broadcaster is looking for ideas of approximately 18 x 2 minute pieces with a maximum budget of €50,000. The shorts will be used as linking devices between shows on RTÉ's output for kids. In addition, there may be 'behind the scenes' material for inclusion on our YPP Christmas website.

RTÉ are seeking ideas driven by an ambitious creative concept, with a unifying narrative thread which will embrace the world of Under 14s during the holiday period, reflecting the fun, energy and enthusiasms typical of this target audience. It is envisaged they will be filmed on location. It is envisaged that the Young Peoples' presenters will feature strongly in the series.

Proposals for the Christmas shorts should be submitted through RTÉ eCommissioning (see the following link: e-commissioning.rte.ie. However, interested companies should also submit a hard copy proposal which should include: concept, narrative, outline, treatment, indication of talent, outline of online material and budget.

Hard copy of the proposals should be addressed in the following way: 'Christmas Shorts for RTÉ's Young Peoples Output', Independent Productions, Stage 7, RTÉ, Donnybrook, Dublin 4 and should arrive at RTÉ Goods Inwards no later than 17:00 on Thursday 23rd of September.

Where RTÉ’s Two Tube Young Scientist reports competition is concerned, the series will consist of approximately 6 x 2'00" shorts which should engage the target audience in an exploration of science, as reflected in the Young Scientist competition, while also providing encouragement to participants in the competition. An understanding of the target audience will be important in the tone, editorial and stylistic design of this series.

In addition, the company should provide additional material or a longer cut of each report for inclusion on our YPP Young Scientist website. The budget for these report shorts is €26,000

Again proposals should be submitted through RTÉ eCommissioning (see the following link: https://e-commissioning.rte.ie/SWIFT.Web/skins/rte/login.aspx). However, interested companies should also submit a hard copy proposal which should include: concept, narrative, outline, treatment, indication of talent, outline of online material and
