The Irish-Belgian short film ‘Big Bird’ will screen this Saturday the 26th November at the Birmingham Film Festival in the UK.
The film is described as a punk rom-com and is about an Irishman in Belgium who has quite the internet date to remember.
The short was directed by Jan Boon, written by Derek O Connor and produced by Declan Lynch. Starring in the lead roles are Johnny Vivash and Liesa Naert. Johnny Vivash has been nominated for ‘Best Male Actor’ at this weekend’s festival for his role in ‘Big Bird’.
Speaking to IFTN writer Derek O’ Connor said, “Big Bird was a no-budget labour of love for all involved, and it's had an incredible life, with screenings all over the world and even a few awards along the way. The film was written especially for Johnny, who's an incredible actor, it's wonderful to see him getting due credit for a great performance. Fingers crossed for the win!”
The film was created for the annual FollowGent film project, based in Ghent, Belgium. The competition invites entries for ten-page scripts set in the city of Ghent, with the chosen scripts produced by a series of local filmmaking talent and premiered at the annual Ghent International Film Festival.
