Tribeca 2017 kicks off today with six Irish Titles

The festival which runs until April 30th sees a wealth of Irish documentaries and shorts alike included in the line-up in addition to feature project ‘Pilgrimage’ from Brendan Muldowney.

‘Pilgrimage’ has already secured upwards of ten distribution deals and will premiere at the festival on Sunday April 23rd.

The 13th century epic is written by Jamie Hannigan and stars Tom Holland (The Lost City of Z), Jon Bernthal (The Punisher) and Richard Armitage (Brain on Fire). It is produced by Conor Barry and John Keville of Savage Productions producing and XYZ as Executive Producers.

Renowned editor Emer Reynolds’ step into directing with her documentary ‘The Farthest’ which follows the 40th anniversary of NASA’s voyager mission is also set to screen. The project is a Crossing The Line film presented by HHMI Tangled Bank Studios in association with The Irish Film Board, ZDF/ARTE and the BBC.

‘The Farthest’ is edited by Tony Cranstoun with John Murray (Here Was Cuba) and Clare Stronge (Spider House) as producers.

The final feature length project is ‘Elián’, also a documentary project, from Tim Golden and Ross McDonnell. It investigates the story of Cuban boy named Elián González who was found floating through the Florida Straits on Thanksgiving Day, 1999. It is produced by Alex Gibney.

Irish shorts set to screen are the recent winner of the IFTA for Best Animation ‘Second to None’ (Vincent Gallagher), ‘11th Hour’ from Jim Sheridan and ‘Wave’ directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Ben Cleary (Stutterer) and TJ O’Grady-Peyton.
