09 Apr 2013 : By Kevin Cronin
'Ripper Street' is BAFTA-nominated for Best Drama.
‘Ripper Street’ is nominated for Best Drama Series at this year’s BAFTA TV awards, announced this morning, with a further five Irish nominations in the categories of Best Mini-Series (Aisling Walsh for ‘Room at the Top’); Current Affairs (This World Productions for ‘The Shame of the Catholic Church’); Comedy for Declan Lowney, director of 'Mr Stink'; and two for Graham Norton in Entertainment Performance and Entertainment Programme.

Currently back in Dublin for filming of season two at Clancy Barracks until 31 August, ‘Ripper Street’ has drawn upon the talents of a host of Irish cast and crew including Monaghan actress Charlene McKenna, producer Ed Guiney, IFTA-winning make-up artists Sharon Doyle and Eileen Buggy, IFTA winning production designer Mark Geraghty; costume designer Lorna Marie Mugan; and editor Helen Chapman.

'Ripper Street' is a co-production between Ireland’s Element Pictures and the UK’s Tiger Aspect Productions and Lookout Point.

Aisling Walsh - four time IFTA nominee and director of ‘Song for a Raggy Boy’ - is nominated for Best Mini Series alongside Amanda Coe, Paul Fritt and Kate Triggs for the Great Meadows/BBC Four co-production of ‘Room at the Top.’

‘The Shame of the Catholic Church’ - which was also IFTA nominated this year - is recognised in the Current Affairs category, citing ‘This World’ producers Sam Collyns, Alison Milar, Darragh MacIntyre and Seamus McCracken.

Declan Lowney, former Father Ted director, is nominated alongside David Walliams, Jo Sargent and Mark Freeland for ‘Mr Stink’ in the Comedy Programme category.

Finally, the indefatigable Graham Norton received two nominations – for Entertainment Performance and Entertainment Programme for BBC One’s ‘The Graham Norton Show’, along with Jon Magnusson, Graham Stuart and Steve Smith of So Television.
