Street Films will host the world premiere of their new documentary ‘Saviours’ at the Galway Film Fleadh this weekend, Sunday July 15th at 4.30pm. The feature length boxing documentary is the debut film for directors Ross Whitaker and Liam Nolan.
The documentary follows three young boxers from the same Dublin boxing club as they fight for a better life both inside, and outside the ring. St. Saviours Olympic Boxing Academy is a safe haven amongst the flats of Dublin's north inner city. There, under the guidance of John McCormack – the wise-cracking Dub and former British Professional Boxing Champion – and his team of wizened coaches, the three boxers aim for victory in the Irish Senior Championships.
Producers at Street Films say “making the film was a fight too”, after a two year shooting period closely following the lives of the protagonists - with no funding whatsoever. Finally, post production funding was supplied by the Irish Film Board.
