Darren Thornton's Four Mothers has been acquired for distribution by Break Out Pictures in Ireland and BFI Distribution in the UK, following its win at London Film Festival. It will be released theatrically on 4th April 2025.
Thornton's film picked up the audience award for Narrativee Feature at BFI London Film Festival last month.
The film was acquired directly from the producers, and French sales outfit mk2 is handling sales in other territories.
Directed by Thornton and co-written with his brother Colin, Four Mothers is adapted from Gianni Di Gregorio’s Italian film Mid-August Lunch, as “a tale of one Irish son juggling four very different mothers after his friends jet off to Spain for an impromptu Pride holiday.”
The cast includes James McArdle, Fionnula Flanagan and Dearbhla Molloy. The film is produced by Eric Abraham, Jack Sidey and Martina Niland. It is a Port Pictures (Ireland) and Portobello Films & Television (UK) production, made with the support of Screen Ireland and The Common Humanity Arts Trust, in association with mk2 Films, Coimisiún na Meán and RTÉ.
