Kite Entertainment's New Series OAP B&B Airs on Virgin Media One this Thursday
24 Oct 2019 : Nathan Griffin
Mildred & Haseeb
Virgin Media Television’s brand new series OAP B&B, will air tonight, Thursday 24th October at 9:30pm on Virgin Media One.

OAP B&B is a brand new feel-good factual entertainment format that celebrates the differences between today’s young and old.  In pairing up elderly homeowners with young renters for the greatest intergenerational living experiment ever seen on Irish telly, we’ll be giving viewers a real snapshot of modern life from two very different perspectives.

Produced by Kite Entertainment, OAP B&B is a unique Irish format for Virgin Media Television, which is being distributed worldwide by BBC Studios and was one of five major VMTV projects showcased at the recent MIPCOM TV Festival in Cannes.

The series is produced by Michelle Carthy and Celine Dominquez Lawless with Ronan O' Donoghue, Barry Egan and Matt Leigh featuring as directors. The series was devised by Mairead Whelan, also Series Producer. Executive Producers include Kite’s Head of Production is Audrey Farrell, Kite’s Darren Smith and Virgin Media’s Anthony Nilan. Post Production is done in Piranhabar.

In each episode, a young renter moves in with an older home owner on a two week trial basis to see if the two generations can get along and make the living arrangement more permanent.

For the OAP, it’s a chance to combat the everyday loneliness of living in an empty house. For the renter, it’s a chance to live rent free, in return for their time and some chores. At the end of two intensive weeks, they will each decide if they are willing to move in together and make the living arrangement permanent.

In episode one, we meet Mildred & Haseeb. Mildred, a volunteer in Knock Basilica is in her mid-70s and lives alone in rural Co. Roscommon. Mildred is a well-known pillar of her local community and church, and teaches Irish dancing several nights a week.

31-year-old Haseeb is originally from Pakistan, and is a member of the mosque in Ballaghaderreen. Haseeb is from the war torn area (Pakistani side of) Kashmir, which is an area of conflict between India and Pakistan.  He came to Ireland to get away from the dangers of the conflict (the area where his family lives is often bombed) as an asylum seeker/seeker of Irish naturalisation so that he can start a new and safer life in Ireland.

OAP B&B airs on Virgin Media One tomorrow night at 9:30pm.
