TG4 Drama 'Ros na Rún' Announces Additional Auditions Ahead of Season 24
01 Apr 2019 : News Desk
Behind the scenes of 'Ros Na Rún'
Ireland’s longest running and largest Irish language production, ‘Ros na Rún’, will host an additional day of auditions for actors interested in joining the series later this month in Galway.

Candidates who demonstrate the most flair and natural acting ability will be shortlisted to have the opportunity to return to the set and join the cast of Ros na Rún for series 24, which begins filming in August of this year.

Speaking about the audition process, Series Producer Marion Ní Loingsigh said:

“I am extremely happy with the standard that I have seen already. The April auditions are being held to meet the demand of candidates who may have been disappointed when they didn’t get the opportunity to attend the March ones.”

“We have been fortunate over the years to have found cast members among local amateur groups in Gaeltacht communities. Indeed, many of these have adapted so naturally to their characters and been so popular with viewers that their roles have been expanded.”

Each season of ‘Ros na ‘Rún’ traditionally sees the introduction of a few new characters and this year producers specifically seeking a woman in her 40s, a woman in her 50’s/60’s and a young man in his mid-twenties. Although actors from all age groups are still welcome to audition and candidates are expected to have Irish.

‘Ros na Rún’ consists of a 150-strong team made up of crew, directors, writers, and actors as well as about 80 extras a week with filming taking place on a purpose-built set in An Spidéal over a six month period.

The show enjoys a regular viewership of roughly 150,000, who tune in to the soap’s twice-weekly broadcasts on Tuesday and Thursday with a subtitled omnibus on Sundays. The show is also viewed by the Irish diaspora on the TG4 player all over the world, mostly in the UK, USA, and Australia. The soap’s appeal is down to its rural setting and its ability to tackle social issues with a dash of humour.

Last season was the first time that the show filmed in High Definition (HD) following a complete refurbishment of the set at a cost of €1 million last summer; the show is co-produced by Eo Teilifis and Tyrone Productions and broadcasts for 41 weeks of the year.
