Clonakilty often referred to by locals simply as Clon, is a small town on the N71 national secondary road in West County Cork, Ireland, approximately a 45 minute drive from Cork City. The town is on the southern coast of the island, and is surrounded by hilly country devoted primarily to dairy farming.

This is one of the most beautiful towns in Ireland and has a great combination of being a pretty town with friendly people. Their open mindedness makes filming very easy, despite it being a busy place in the Summer months. Great locations are within easy reach and the abundance of well priced Hotels and shops, bars & restaurants make it an ideal place to base a crew.

The town won the Irish Tidy Towns Competition in 1999 and every year since has gained awards for its environmental efforts. The cleanliness is the result in part of the voluntary efforts of local shopkeepers and staff. In 2003, Clonakilty became Ireland’s first ever official Fair Trade Town. In 2007 it was awarded the status of European Destination of Excellence by the European Commission at a ceremony in Portugal and is Ireland's first recipient of this prestigious title.

One important feature of the town is the Church of the Immaculate Conception. This cathedral sized church was opened for worship on Sunday 25th July, 1880, after 10 years work. This church is 18th century French Gothic in style and is of green sandstone which was quarried locally and dressed in this yard by local craftsmen.

Wicklow granite is used in the surrounds of the doors and windows. The inside reveals some fine examples of stained glass, hand carved statues and altars in pure white Sicilian marble. This church has a commanding position right in the centre of the town.

Distance from Cork: 50 minutes
