Higginsbrook House

The House is somewhere between grand and modest. For the two films made here in 2006, Becoming Jane and Northanger Abbey, it played the part of a Vicarage. In the recent book, ‘Romantic Irish Homes’*, it falls into the section ‘Homes for Gentry’.

It was built in 1743 and has hardly been changed from that date, inside or out. Plaster work is simple and intact, the fireplaces similar to the originals. There is lawn to front and back with two rivers, a small one leading down to the Boyne and there is a half-mile of bank. There is a good sized barn even closer to the river, which is an open space and used either for filming scenes or for storage.

Catering, Generating, Costuming, Caravans and Parking can all be accommodated nearby. The House is 35 miles from Dublin, 3 ˝ miles from Trim.
