Pilmore Estuary is a massive area of wet sand backed by flat windswept grass and is an ideal bird sanctuary. At low tide it stretches out in every direction and its openness makes anything standing on it look very small indeed.
Popular with birdwatchers of course, it is also used by the locals for many reasons, including the traditional practice of farmers sharpening their ploughs in Autumn by driving onto the beach to plough it! Distance from Cork: 50 minutes |
