Based on the Pulitizer nominated novel, this film is essentially a monologue by Isabella who tries to bring the different strands of her life together after the Holocaust. Driven from the Jewish ghetto of Kishvarda in Hungary to Auschwitz she witnesses the death of her mother and the dergradation suffered by thousands of Jews. On a death march to Bergan-Belsen she manages to escape with her other two sisters during a blizzard. The girls hide in the mountains for a few weeks until they are rescued by Russian soldiers.

Isabella Leitner became the first survivor of the Holocaust to reach America.
