Newly established specialist distributor Atlantic Formats have secured multi-territory deals for Irish TV formats National Treasures (RTÉ) and Revealing Recipes (TG4).

Having pitched an exciting slate of original formats at markets over the past six months, including MIPCOM and NAPTE, the response for Atlantic Formats’ offering has so far been very positive.

The National Treasures format (originally produced for RTÉ) is going into production in New Zealand (TVNZ) and Spain (À Punt) and has been optioned in over 15 countries. Revealing Recipes (and outdoor show originally produced under the title “Blasta” for TG4) has also secured multi-territory option deals in North America and Europe.

EZ Films' National Treasures was selected as a finalist for C21 International Format Awards in 2019. More than 270 formats were entered into the Awards that year, with National Treasure being the only Irish representative of the 57 to make the final.

Atlantic Formats is a newly established distribution agency specialising in the sale of TV and online formats from the Celtic regions to the rest of the world.

“Despite what has been a difficult year generally, we managed to create a new business venture,” Head of sales Gavin Farrell told IFTN. “Working with EZ Films, we assembled a catalogue of formats very quickly and brought it to international buyers.”

“Even though everything was virtual this year, we had a really great MIPCOM and NATPE. It’s a new business so it’s exciting to see some success already,” Farrell continued. “We are looking forward to pitching at more markets across 2021, hopefully, face-to-face soon and bringing more great local formats to the world stage”.

Atlantic Formats have just acquired an open-air dating format Love is in the Air (originally produced for RTÉ) and is in discussions with UK and Irish producers about bringing more exciting formats into their catalogue.
