'The Camino Voyage' Opens 23rd November in Ireland
12 Nov 2018 :
The Camino Voyage
Irish Documentary 'The Camino Voyage' Set for Irish Release - Friday, November 23rd.

Dónal ó Céilleachair's award-winning documentary 'The Camino Voyage' will release in Irish Cinemas nationwide on Friday, November 23rd.

Produced by Anú Pictures in association with Phoenix Films, 'The Camino Voyage' was recently awarded The Documentary Award at the Irish Screen America Film Festival in New York. This follows previous wins at Dingle International Film Festival, Luxembourg British & Irish Film Season and An tOireachtas Media Awards.

Shot over four years and capturing 200 hours of footage, 'The Camino Voyage' follows a crew consisting of a Writer, two Musicians, an Artist and a Stonemason as they embark on the Camino by sea, in a traditional boat that they built themselves on an inspiring, and dangerous, 2,500 km modern day Celtic odyssey all the way from Ireland to Northern Spain.

For centuries, individuals have embarked on the Camino (the Way), from Ireland to Santiago de Compostela in A Coruña, Northern Spain. 'The 'Camino Voyage' tells the incredible story of four individuals who undertake the massive journey over the course of three years in their own handmade traditional boat, called a 'Naomhóg'. The film documents the passengers' courage and endurance, with storytelling, poetry and song that transcends cultures and religions.

'The Camino Voyage' features Danny Sheehy, Brendan Begley, Liam Holden, Breandán Moriarty & Glen Hansard. Music by Brendan Begley, Peadar Ó Riada, Glen Hansard, Liam Ó Maonlaí, Carlos Nuñez and many more.

Speaking about the experience, Director Dónal ó Céilleachair said:

"When the Naomhóg left Ireland in 2014 on this historic 2,500km modern day Celtic Odyssey not everyone believed that such an epic voyage was possible but through sheer perseverance and an uplifting freedom of spirit - that is so emblematic of all that is inspiring in Irish culture – the crew overcame Herculean tasks and challenges to finally reach Santiago de Compostela 3 years later.

"With over 200 hours of footage shot over the 3 years of the odyssey this film has been 4 years in the making and has come with its own obstacles and challenges; but the great lessons of the Camino can become the great lessons of life for those willing or able to listen and to hear. The tragic loss of Danny in 2017 only reminds us of the preciousness of this short time we have on this unique planet of ours and we would do well to take inspiration from his own inimitable independence of spirit.

"I consider it a great privilege to have accompanied this eclectic crew on their historic voyage and if the film manages to do some justice to this great modern day odyssey, and to the memory of this larger-than-life man from Baile Eaglaise, it will have accomplished something."

The film has already screened at a number of festivals including the Glasgow International Film Festival, Dublin International Film Festival, Celtic Camino Festival, Newport Beach International Fesitval, the Belfast Documentary Film Festival and the Galway Film Fleadh. 'The Camino Voyage' was funded by the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland with the Television Licence Fee with the participation of TG4, The Irish Film Board and RTé.

'The Camino Voyage' releases in Irish Cinemas on Friday, November 23rd through Eclipse Pictures.
