Job Title: Junior Broadcast Engineer
Job Description:
The successful candidate will be part of a busy broadcasting team working with SDI and IP based technologies. Training will be provided within the Unit and through external accreditation. This role will in addition manage the transfer of video content through multiple workflows and the digitisation of legacy video.
The aim of the job:
- Provide technical support to a busy broadcast engineering team
- Ensure media creation workflows successfully complete and are documented
- Manage overall media storage levels
- Ensure digitisation of content over agreed timeframes
- Facilitate the transfer of legacy tape content into a digital format with metadata
- Ensure quality control regarding content accuracy
- Provision of reports including completions, issues, resolutions
- Establish and maintain a steady, timely, flow of content between storage mediums
Main responsibilities:
General Responsibilities
- Setup and support equipment including audio desk, vision mixer, PTZ cameras, streaming solutions and associated AV presentation equipment (among other technologies including zoom, skype and equivalent solutions)
- Provide technical and engineering assistance to the Broadcast Engineering team
- Responsibility for the day-to-day transfer of content
- Ensure workflows are in place and effective to enable successful and transparent transfer of media
- Work with the Technical, Production, Operations teams and clients to enable this transfer
- Ensure that archive policies and the standards and protocols are followed
- Ensure workflows are implemented within existing infrastructure and systems
- Responsibility for ensuring all operational procedures are followed
- Attending department meetings when required
- Quality control of digitised media
- Rapid turnaround and delivery of media to vendors in various formats
Support and Reporting
- Report equipment problems, ensure that repairs are made, and make emergency repairs to equipment when necessary and possible.
- Prepare reports outlining status, milestones, roadmap of digitisation
- React to automation warnings in the required manner
- Provide timely information to key stakeholders
- Raise any technical issues to the Technical Operations Manager.
- Ensure any resolved or unresolved issues are communicated internally.
- Provide key performance indicators for the transfer workflows and provide regular data for comparative and regulatory processes
Experience, Knowledge & Skills:
Essential
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working in technical broadcast environment e.g., Ingest, CAR, MCR, Engineering or an equivalent third level qualification in engineering/IT or similar
- A good operational knowledge of and experience with relevant types of video media e.g. tapes and digital
Desirable
- Experience with Avid, Adobe Premier, Final cut or similar systems
- Knowledge/Experience in historical, current and emerging file formats and codecs
- Content management experience, working with large databases of files and content
- Experience of tape formats including: DTF2, BetaSP, LTO
- An understanding of the production process
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Flexible and constructive response to changing deadlines
- The ability to work well under pressure
- Must have excellent attention to detail
- Ability to identify, prioritise and suggest alternatives to problems
- Experience in dealing with teams in relation to the day-to-day communication and reporting
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Pragmatic and accountable for results
- Keen interest in emerging technologies
All candidates must have the Right to Work in Ireland. This is a one year fixed term contract, which will be reviewed at the end of the term.
