Oireachtas TV - Assistant Producer
Pi Communications are seeking an Assistant Producer to work on ongoing current affairs, news related programming and projects for the Oireachtas TV channel. The producer will work together as part of a small team to produce and edit, regular weekly, daily and monthly content as well as some longer-term programming formats, special events or historical program formats.
Main Responsibilities of the Role
- Assisting in Planning Regular Oireachtas Studio Discussions
- Assisting in Production and Editing of “Around the Houses” Monthly Review
- Highlights Program or similar regular review programs
- Special Event Programming – such as Budget Day, Events, Historical
- Commemorations, Launches and Conferences
- Conducting Regular Interviews (e.g. Committee Report Launches, Press Releases and Foreign Dignitary Visits)
- Assist with EU Content / Strasburg Visits
- Assist with idea generation and creation of new content types and shorter stylised filler content
- Assist with communication of delivery of content to various destinations
Ongoing Duties and Tasks:
- Researching of guests, stories - Selecting topics for Studio Shows, Shoots & Interviews
- Researching of key Oireachtas news stories on a daily basis
- Researching of historically focused items to mark commemorations or events
- Assisting in the output of live studio programs
- Guest booking, and associated paperwork
- Storyboarding, shoot and production planning
- Interview question writing
- Interviewing guests – and asking questions (Off Camera)
- Sourcing of archive content / external footage
- Scripting and supervision of quicker turn around Edits
- Creating paper edits and producer’s cuts on Avid
- Compiling Footage on a timeline and Craft Edit Supervision
- Liaising with internal and external departments to plan shoots, and edits
- Liaising with Directors, Cameramen, Editors, ISL Interpreters from Pre-Production to Delivery
- Ensuring content is delivered to various destinations
- Documenting work completed and compiling status updates
The ideal candidate will have a keen interest and experience in News, Politics, Historical and Current Affairs Programming, and thrive on producing daily news-based stories and packages. They will ideally have a journalistic background or experience in programming such as documentary making, factual programming. Experience in editing, journalism, creating tv or radio news inserts, ENG and EFP programming and studio programming is an advantage.

- Creative, hardworking and driven
- Excellent communication and interpersonal Skills
- Comfortable interviewing guests, including Members, MEP’s and academics
- A strong contacts book
- Excellent Organisational Skills
- Ability to work off own initiative and as part of a team
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
- Experience of broadcast post production workflows
- Experience working in the studio on live gallery based television productions
- A keen interest and knowledge in current affairs, history and politics
- Working knowledge of editing software and ability to edit is an advantage
- Excellent Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word Etc
- A relevant qualification in Communications, Journalism, Broadcast or Media
- Production, History or English
- A good working knowledge of Irish Language is an advantage
