About the Role:
The Associate Producer of Sport will produce distinctive television sports programming across Virgin Media Television including Virgin Media Platform and Social Media channels. Reporting to the Head of News and Sport, this person will be responsible for sports content output including digital and/or social media as required. Working closely with other VMTV employees across all departments including talent and technical staff. Also liaising regularly with external stakeholders including rights agencies, sporting federations, broadcast agencies, and other broadcasters.
Specific Duties & Tasks:
- To drive content visually, in terms of style and structure, with high professional standards, consistent with the style and editorial content of VMSport and its audience.
- To produce highlights edits for TV and digital services, often under pressure with a quick turnaround, as well as preparing longer form edits for transmission.
- To work collaboratively across live sports events and output liaising with technical operatives in the areas such as playback and graphics.
- To engage with and build relationships with contributors, presenters, experts, external stakeholders, and technical partners.
- To work closely, when required, with other areas of the business, including Broadcast and Operations, Content, including Programming, Publicity, and Digital teams.
- To be involved in all areas of the programme making and output, understanding basic satellite and digital delivery methods as well as researching, writing and setting up filming shoots and locations.
- To engage and embrace VMSport Social Media and Digital channels to promote VMSport Programming
- To plan and organise, taking into account all relevant issues and factors, so that projects and work are completed in an efficient and timely way, including compiling and completing Rights Clearances for archive and music returns for all platforms.
Skills & Expertise:
Essential:
- Strong editorial judgement and in-depth knowledge of the Irish sports agenda.
- Thoroughness for accuracy and excellence in attention to detail
- Experience of cutting inserts, to complete films and highlights of sporting events on Avid NewsCutter
- Good organisational skills and an ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines and changing priorities
- Ability to use and engage in social digital media to promote content
- Understanding of TV and digital production skills and requirements
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team
Desirable:
- 2 years’ experience of working on live OB productions
- On-air experience in terms of reporting, both interviewing and voicing material
- Awareness of the latest technologies to deliver the highest quality cost-efficient programming
- Understanding of budgetary controls and cost management
- Full clean driving license
