Job Description:
The position of Lead Previz and Layout Artist requires someone with several years’ experience in CG layout, Previz and camera set-up.
Successful applicants will have excellent leadership and communication skills and be proficient in Maya and its Camera, Modelling & Animation tools.
The role will include the responsibility to help standardise, improve and document the Layout and Previz pipeline.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with the 3D Supervisors to establish, maintain and update the Layout and Previz pipeline for the projects and studio at large.
- Establish geography, functionality and layout of location assets by building proxy geometries and feeding these assets to Modelling.
- Previz key animation sequences on Director’s request
- Work closely with the Episodic Directors on sequence layout and location blocking.
- Set up cameras for shots and layout action for Animation.
- Complete episodic camera notes.
- Provide leadership and support for the in-house Previz & Layout team, both creatively and technically.
- Provide regular progress updates to production manager and 3D supervisor on any technical/workflow bottlenecks within the Previz & Layout schedule.
- Define, document and communicate standards and techniques for Previz & Layout pipeline.
- Train Junior Previz & layout artists when they join the studio.
Key Requirements
- Must have an understanding of visual storytelling for layout and composition.
- Must have a working knowledge of animation and modelling in Maya as it relates to the role.
- Must have a good sense of pacing and timing in Animation
- Must have strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail and quality.
- Must be able to work alone and collaboratively, often with multiple tasks and under deadline pressure.
- Must be open to direction and able to embrace change.
- Experience in pipeline/workflow development
- Past experience or proven ability to train Junior Artists
- Proven Leadership skills
