The Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) is now recruiting the position of Head of Film & Television.

IFTA is a not for profit all-Ireland organisation with a membership of 1,240 Irish industry professionals.  In addition to our Awards ceremonies, we have a year-round programme of learning events and initiatives that offer unique access to some of the world’s most inspiring talent, through workshops, masterclasses, lectures, discussions, workshops and mentoring programmes in Ireland.  The Academy works to celebrate, honour and promote the achievements and growth of Irish creative talent by identifying and celebrating excellence, while nurturing new talent and enabling learning and creative collaboration.

Having just marked 15-Years of the Academy with 450 events already delivered (masterclasses, lectures, discussions etc. including Martin Scorsese, Michael Moore, Liam Neeson and 18 Award Ceremonies), the new IFTA Board has recently taken the much-needed time to plan for the next important and exciting phase of development for the Academy, to support the new growth within the Irish screen industry.

A 5-Year Strategic Development Plan (2019 – 2023) is now almost completed and will shortly be launched, outlining new initiatives across the 12-month Academy’s Excellence & Learning Programme; expanding membership to 3,000 professionals; establishing the Academy Building as the central Hub for Irish Members with meeting space and screening room & housing the Academy Archive; working with strategic partners including BAFTA and AMPAS and the structuring of key funding for high-calibre Award Ceremonies to showcase Ireland’s expanding creative industry.

The new position:  Head of Film & Television

IFTA is now seeking to recruit an individual to the position of HEAD OF FILM & TELEVISION with excellent administration, management and communication skills to work with and manage a small team and extended team of contractors.  This position will also involve working closely with the Academy CEO to deliver the new 5-year strategy for the Academy and the industry and to oversee the annual Academy programme of events including the IFTA Awards.

Start Date: August/September

Key responsibilities

  • Work closely with the CEO across the Academy’s programme of events to the highest possible standard and drive all approved initiatives that support growth of the industry.
  • Manage a small IFTA team of full-time staff year-round and additional part-time staff and contractors in the lead-up to key Academy events.
  • Manage financial resources of the Academy in a productive manner, within budget.
  • Work with the CEO and official PR Company to prepare and implement an effective Irish & international PR strategy; promoting Irish talent and building audience engagement through key Academy events.
  • Work with the CEO and 3rd party consultants on: Fundraising for the Academy; application deadlines; sponsorship; partnerships, including state bodies, film funders and broadcasters.
  • Oversee the mamagement of IFTA’s Film Committee and Television Committee meetings and update rules & guidelines as approved by the Board and Committees.
  • Liaise with Distributors, Studios, Publicists, Filmmakers, Cinemas, broadcasters and Venues and maintain ongoing relationships with partners, festivals and industry bodies.
  • Manage the awards schedule, submissions coordinator, online voting communication, Jury invitions, entries, liaising with the Academy’s scrutineers and processing results with strict confidentiality.
  • Work with Production Team and the Awards production company on the ceremony and TV broadcast, ensuring all Academy/ Nominee information is correct (e.g. clips packages, graphics, script mentions of named categories and sponsor mentions etc.)
  • Work with Event Manager and Guest Coordinator across venue, ticketing, sponsor requirements, logistics, seating plan, guest presenters.
  • Work alongside the Membership Coordinator to increase membership and encourage engagement in line with the Academy’s strategy.
  • Work closely with the CEO in liaising effectively with other international Academies, including AMPAS, BAFTA and Film Academies Network of Europe among others.
  • Represent IFTA where required at international conferences, festivals and international Academy meetings, build on existing relationships and expand the reach of the Irish Academy and the profile of Irish creative talent.

Essential Criteria for this role:

  • Excellent knowldege of and a passion for the film & television industry in Ireland and internationally and Irish creative talent.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with people at all levels with diplomacy and professionalism.
  • Extensive project and strategic management experience with strong team leader ability, able to drive initiatives with creativity and enthusiasm.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to process large amounts of sensitive data quickly and correctly,
  • Experience of fundraising, submitting core funding applications and sponsorship generation.
  • Proven ability to devise and manage schedules across a varied 12 month calendar programme; to assign key staff and resources where required and handle a number of tasks under pressure.
  • Excellent knowledge of financial procedures and budget management
  • High level of computer literacy, proficient admin IT skills for database management, budgeting, planning, scheduling, presentations, graphics and social media online tools.
  • Flexible thinker with the ability to embrace changes in the business and work effectively as part of a team
  • Flexibility - as this job may entail irregular working hours and travel.
