Brown Bag Films require a Character Technical Director

REPORTING TO: Head of Character Assets

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE:

The position of Character Technical Director requires an enthusiastic and self motivated individual with an extensive knowledge of Maya and how it applies to character asset development for animation production. This individual will be responsible for the maintenance and further development of the BBF character asset pipeline, toolset and workflows for a range of productions.

Key Areas of responsibilities:

  • Work with the head of department and the pipeline team to determine BBF workflows, tool requirements and asset needs.
  • Develop and manage the BBF Rigging Tools while maximising usability, efficiency, scalability and reliability.
  • Build and develop hero and archetype rigging templates to be used throughout the productions.
  • Identify and outline Rigging bottlenecks and deficiencies, technical or otherwise, to the Head of Department and propose and Implement solutions.
  • Document rigging workflow and pipeline on the BBF Knowledge base.
  • Provide documentation and support to external production companies in their use of the BBF Rigging pipeline.
  • Clearly communicate the rigging procedures, workflows and standards to the other members of the Character team
  • Work with the Head of Department to determine training and casting needs of the rigging team.
  • Complete Character rigging tasks as required

Person Specification/Requirements

  • 6+ years’ experience in a supervisory capacity on a CG production or similar role.
  • Experience in development and maintenance of Rigging/compositing pipelines.
  • Proficient python development skills and experience with the Maya API
  • Proficient rigging in Maya
  • Strong Leadership skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
