TV3 requires an Avid Editor (News)
Reporting to: Head of 3News
Duration: Permanent
Location: Ballymount
About the role:
The successful candidate will be responsible for completing a range of editing duties to the highest level of technical standards. Primarily working on 3News Ireland, the successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively with the Edit Team to ensure TV3’s production standards and editing projects are achieved.
Key tasks of the role:
- To craft edit on the full range of 3News and wider TV3 productions.
- To operate editing equipment to the highest levels at base and on location.
- To be proficient in the use of Avid Interplay and networked storage including maintenance and administrative functions.
- To carry out first-line maintenance during out of hours editing.
- To take responsibility as directed by the Head of 3News in support of the effective operation of the Editing Section and development of Edit Team.
- To adhere to the relevant codes of practice applicable to the role with particular reference to technical quality requirements.
- To ensure correct line-up of editing facilities.
- To work on special projects as required.
- To support the development of production multi-skilling for newsroom and production teams as required.
- To keep up to date with appropriate technologies, techniques and production methods and to make recommendations for improvement as appropriate.
- To support the development and maintenance of efficient workflows throughout the production chain.
- To undertake any other duties as requested by management.
About the person:
The ideal candidate must have:
- In-depth operational knowledge of file based technologies, in the use of Avid editing systems, Avid Interplay and networked storage including maintenance and administrative functions.
- In-depth knowledge of audio and video principles.
- Good knowledge of television production processes.
- A knowledge of relevant codes of practice applicable to the role with particular reference to technical quality requirements.

- Basic knowledge of sound design and music production.
- The ability to work with a range of Production teams and to edit unsupervised.
- A good eye for picture.
- The ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure.
- An interest in news and current affairs.
- Good Communication Skills.
- Knowledge of basic trouble shooting techniques.
- Flexibility and be prepared to work in a shift pattern.
- Minimum of 3 year’s recent relevant experience in news production.
- Experience in a live broadcast environment beneficial.
- A very high attention to detail and accuracy, and will ideally have a relevant NCEA Diploma or equivalent.
