Screen Producers Ireland requires a Policy & Communications Manager

Reporting to: The Chief Executive
Start Date: As Soon As Possible
Place of Work: Screen Producers Ireland, 77 Merrion Square, Dublin 2.
Hours Per Week: 9am – 5.30pm Mondays to Fridays.
Salary: Negotiable. This is a permanent post with a six-month probationary period.
Holiday Entitlement:c.20 days p.a. plus public holidays, plus the period between Christmas and New Year.

Screen Producers Ireland (SPI), the independent film and television production sector advocacy body – is seeking an outstanding person to take up the key role of Policy and Communications Manager.

The successful candidate will join the company’s small, busy team based in our offices on Merrion Square at the centre of the political hub.

This is a dynamic role requiring a proactive, reliable self-starter with the confidence to liaise with senior colleagues and external stakeholders.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the role incorporates a wide range of communications, public affairs and policy tasks. The Policy and Communications Manager will promote and advocate for the value and benefits of the Independent Production sector. He/she will ensure that SPI Policy positions and messages are communicated to a wide variety of audiences.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate strong writing and editorial skills with excellent communication skills. Good administrative skills, including technical website competence, are essential.

Experience working with the media, managing events and meetings is desirable. Whilst experience in film and television would be an advantage, direct experience in production is not essential; the successful candidate will possess the skills needed to quickly acquire technical knowledge. Similarly, a good understanding of the independent film and television sector is desirable but not essential at this stage.

Job Description: 

Policy

  • Support the Chief Executive in delivering the SPI strategic plan
  • Research a range of sectoral briefs affecting SPI members and be able to write high quality informed, succinct briefings, reports and consultation responses for internal and external audiences
  • Manage SPI advocacy campaigns
  • Manage the public affairs and media related information flow
  • Attend meetings with Government and other Policy Committee meetings

Communications

  • Manage and develop excellent communications with industry stakeholders and the SPI membership
  • Deal with and direct membership queries
  • Draft and approve regular SPI membership and website commications
  • Manage and update the information flow for the SPI website and social media channels
  • Manage and deliver a range of membership events (approx. 8 per annum) including the SPI annual AGM
  • Represent SPI at industry events and festivals

Person Specification Qualifications

  • Relevant Politics, Business, Economics, degree or equivalent
  • At least two years relevant work experience
  • High level of literacy and numeracy

Knowledge and experience

  • An interest in the audio-visual sector in Ireland, and the desire to learn more
  • Ability to understand and analyse sectoral information and prepare clear, concise and accurate briefings and consultation responses
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and some experience of writing reports
  • Solid experience of organising committees and meetings, including minute taking
  • Excellent IT skills and competency in all common software packages including Outlook, Word, Excel and database management. Knowledge and experience of website content management systems and social media is essential.

  • Excellent time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and deliver to tight deadlines
  • A flexible approach to taking on a wide range of tasks and using a broad range of skills in a fast changing environment
  • A team-player mentality, ability to work alone or in a team to support colleagues
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and influencing skills
