Boulder Media requires a 3D Animation Director

The Animation Director will be responsible for establishing key character animation and an animation bible for Boulder Media’s 3D feature production.

Responsibilities include:

• Establishing an animation bible for production with the Lead Animator and Director.
• Maintain the high standard of animation throughout the production.
• Ensure animation passes are at the desired standard.
• Approve Blend Shapes and Morphs for facial expressions.
• Work closely with the Lead Rigger to develop an intuitive and responsive rig for each character.
• Work alongside the Director to understand overall story and style of the show.
• Work closely with the animation teams to maintain standards and retakes numbers as production proceeds.
• Monitor department workflow effectively and give accurate assessments of the workload, ensuring the timely delivery of final animated episodes.
• Maintain open and clear communication with Production Manager, other department leads and Animation team, voicing problems, concerns and technical insight as required.
• Communicate with Production Manager and other Department Leads on departmental status.
• Support the Production Manager in recruiting animation staff as and when required.

Person Specification:

• 4 years CG experience, ideally within 3D feature films.
• Experience as an Animation Lead is desirable.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills both verbally and in writing.
• Teamwork skills- flexible, pragmatic and proactive.
• ‘Hands-on’ mentality, excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
