Head of Technology - Windmill Lane

Windmill Lane Pictures Ltd. is seeking an experienced Head of Engineering for its busy Post-Production and VFX facility in Dublin.

About the role:

The Head of Engineering will be responsible for the day to day running of the Engineering department and the team of technicians they manage.

The role requires superb project management skills and a drive for technical excellence, efficiency & productivity as well as attaining value for money in dealing with suppliers and 3rd party service contractors.

The ideal candidate must be extremely technical, innovative and have a high degree of understanding, knowledge and experience in post-production & VFX workflows and technologies as well as Broadcast/Post/VFX industry dynamics.

What the job will look like:

  • Ensure the smooth running of Windmill’s technology infrastructure & liaising with all HoD’s to ensure our technology offering is best-in-class.
  • Responsibility for managing the personnel and HR issues in the 4 person Engineering department.
  • Liaising with suppliers to get the best pricing for equipment and the best after sales service possible.
  • Responsibility for engaging with all HoD’s and Management to produce the annual and ongoing Capex budget for the entire facility.
  • Bringing Innovative technologies, technical work-practices and ideas that would enhance the running and success of Windmill Lane whilst always striving for improving on the IT/Engineering Department.
  • Responsibility for the administration and system maintenance of Linux, Macintosh and Windows based servers and workstations.
  • Knowledge of industry Standard Software
  • Maintaining, adapting and extending as required, the hardware/software/network infrastructure of the entire company.
  • Responsibility for the IT security and Back-up systems and procedures.
  • Administration and maintenance of office systems and telephone system.
  • Administration and development of the IT based office infrastructure.
  • Management of all Software Licences and Company Domains.
  • Supporting producers, operators and other staff on project specific technical requirements for Windmill’s clients either in-house or other remote locations.
  • To raise the technical productivity of the whole facility by working with all staff in regard to ongoing education, training and upskilling.
  • Working with all stakeholders to ensure a first-class technical operational service is delivered.
  • Assist Senior Leadership Team in producing business case presentations for new tech equipment, software, workflow solutions and productivity & efficiency initiatives.

About you:

  • Deep understanding of post-production & VFX technologies: know the process in detail, staying up to date with the efficiencies and productivities that can be achieved through constantly changing technologies and work practices.
  • Possess a working knowledge of Cisco Networking.
  • Experience in project planning, budgeting & scheduling.
  • Experience in Post-production/VFX environment covering workflows in premium level Film, TV, VFX & Advertising sectors.
  • Process improvement and change management skillsets.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to strict deadlines.
  • Ability to motivate people to embrace the benefits of processes, systems and change to delivery efficiencies and productivity in all our technical facilities.
  • Must be proactive, a problem solver, calm under pressure and fast-on-your-feet thinking professional.
  • Multi-tasking skillsets and ability to prioritise conflicting demands.
  • At least 5 years’ experience working at this level in Broadcast/Post/VFX or similar industry.
