About the Role:

This is an exciting role in the Broadcast Technical Team at Virgin Media Television. The Broadcast Technical Team is one of the four core technical disciplines within VMTV. This is a People Leader role where you can motivate and inspire the technical team ensuring strategic priorities and deadlines are met while challenging the ways we operate and looking for improvements.

Due to the nature of Television, this role involves irregular hours and weekend work. 

Specific Duties & Tasks:

  • Lead the Broadcast Tech team to execute the strategic priorities within the Broadcast Engineering function and work with the other technical and operational leads to ensure the smooth delivery of Broadcast department related deliverables 
  • Liaise with the Technical, Production teams and Operations colleagues on all broadcast systems 
  • Manage and participate in projects to investigate and deliver alternative ways of working
  • Regularly review workflows, resources within broadcast function and make recommendations in line with production requirements and business needs 
  • Provide assistance to the technical/operations team as required 
  • Develop the engineering team’s tech capability on systems to ensure operational competence across all shift patterns
  • Coordinate financial, procurement, administrative and logistical tasks in line with business needs and report areas for improvement 
  • Provide shift and annual leave cover oversight and general team lead responsibilities 
  • Become fully acquainted with emergency and disaster recovery procedures in place at Virgin Media Television, both currently and in the future, to ensure safe operation and rapid deployment of alternative services to maintain programme output, should the need arise.  
  • Drive and support the development of the Broadcast capability to ensure operational competence across all shift patterns
  • Liaise with 3rd party contractors to ensure successful delivery of Broadcast related projects, and ensure the procurement procedures are followed
  • The above list is not exhaustive. You will be expected to perform duties as necessitated by your changing role and the overall business objectives of the Company, as directed.  

Skills & Expertise:

  • A computer, engineering or science degree or equivalent 
  • Possess a high degree of technical proficiency and experience (5 Years+) in Broadcast & IT systems, Network management/Skills, Technical documentation, Computer engineering, Virtual environments, including but not limited to knowledge of, Microsoft, Linux, and Networking protocols, VMware, Cisco configuration, Transcoding, Streaming, Storage technologies and Network security 
  • Knowledge of television production processes including file based technologies TV station operations 
  • Strong Technical Project/Program management with being able to lead teams, plan and document installations in entirety and be able to discuss and share a constructed design 
  • Experienced people leader and comfortable with all people leader duties.
  • Experience managing project meetings, schedule and document project roadmaps with time planning, budgeting, and stakeholder inclusion.  
  • An understanding of Health and Safety in a technical operational environment 
  • Experience working in a fast paced organisation, driving multiple priorities and ensuring deadlines are consistently met
