JOB TITLE: Rigging Supervisor
REPORTING TO: Head of Character Assets
SUMMARY OF THE ROLE:
The Successful applicant will be responsible for the development and maintenance of the Brown Bag rigging pipeline. As well as developing the rigging pipeline the Rigging Supervisor will also be a team leader, leading a core team of riggers. The role will also involve hands on rigging.
The position of Rigging Supervisor requires an extensive knowledge of 3D software and they will be an expert in industry standard software packages such as Maya and how they apply to Rigging. A thorough understanding of rigging principles and pipeline is essential. Experience in developing studio prototype rig templates and maintaining production rigging pipelines is required.
Key Areas of responsibilities:
- Develop and Manage the BBF Rigging pipeline and workflows with a primary focus on maximising efficiency, scalability and reliability.
- Supervise the Lead Riggers. Ensure they understand the rigging pipeline, the workflows and that they partner effectively with Production Management and they deliver on their goals.
- Identify and outline Rigging bottlenecks and deficiencies, technical or otherwise, to the Head of Character Assets and Production team. Propose and Implement solutions.
- Assess the needs of productions during high pressure periods by rigging assets and addressing queries from the animation department.
- Clearly and concisely document and communicate the Rigging procedures, workflows and standards to the CG team and on the BBF Wiki.
- Work with the Character TD to provide a department roadmap in terms of tool development across current and new production.
- Partner with the Head of Character Assets and Pipeline team to determine appropriate use of applications and Tools as they apply to the Rigging pipeline for the various CG Productions, either in development or as they are phased into the productions.
- Attend Pipeline and CG Supervisor meetings.
- Set up overseas rigging teams by communicating BBF workflows and providing support to external studios
- Act as a team leader to the core rigging team involving mentorship, training and appraisal duties
Person Specification/Requirements:
- 5+ years’ experience in a supervisory capacity on a CG production or similar role.
- Experience in development and maintenance of Rigging pipelines.
- Strong Leadership skills
- Comfortable with clear communication to team members.
- Expert in Rigging in Maya
- Software development experience, preferably python.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Task Driven
- self-motivated, and proactive to problem solving and technical troubleshooting.
- Open to direction
