Ruth Codd (Small Town, Big Story) has joined the cast of How To Train Your Dragon. The live action adaptation is currently filming in Northern Ireland.
Having recently wrapped recurring roles in Small Town, Big Story, the upcoming television series written by Chris O’Dowd, Element Pictures’ series The Dry, Ruth Codd has joined the cast of the live action How To Train Your Dragon remake. Codd is also known for her roles in Netflix horror series The Midnight Club and The Fall of the House of Usher.
How To Train Your Dragon is understood to follow the same story as the first film of the animated trilogy, with young Viking Hiccup (Mason Thames) aspiring to hunt dragons, only to unexpectedly befriend a young dragon. Thames (The Black Phone) is joined by Nico Parker (The Last of Us) as Astrid, and Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead) as Gobber. Gerard Butler (Geostorm) reprises his role as Stoick, Hiccup’s father. Filming began on the production in Belfast in January of this year.
Codd will play Phlegma, a member of the Viking village. In the original animated film, the character was voiced by Ashley Jensen (Extras, The Lobster).
Northern Ireland will double as the Isle of Berk, the fictional Scandinavian island setting of the animated films. The series is based on author Cressida Cowell’s books of the same name.
The film is being directed by Dean DeBlois, who directed the original animated How To Train Your Dragon trilogy, and produced by Marc Platt for his Universal-based Marc Platt Productions, as well as the company’s president, Adam Siegel.
How To Train Your Dragon is set to release on June 13th, 2025.
