Goodnight Girl, a project from writer Hiram Harrington, director Janna Kemperman, and producer Mary-Margaret Ryan, has been selected for TorinoFilmLab’s 2024 SeriesLab workshop, a development workshop for television projects.
TorinoFilmLab is an international film and TV series incubator linked to the Torino Film Festival in Italy. Nine projects have been selected for TorinoFilmLab’s 2024 SeriesLab workshop, a training course designed to help writers, directors and producers develop original TV series projects. Among these nine projects is Goodnight Girl from writer/co-creator Hiram Harrington, director/co-creator Janna Kemperman, and producer Mary-Margaret Ryan.
The logline for Irish project Goodnight Girl is as follows: “When a young transgender woman dies suddenly, her prejudiced family plans to bury her under her dead name. That is, until her gang of estranged queer friends steal her remains, inadvertently unleashing chaos on an austere Irish town.”
Writer/co-creator Hiram Harrington is a writer, director and artist from Dublin. His debut short film as writer/director, Glory, Hole, debuted at the GAZE International LGBTQ+ Film Festival in 2023. In 2021, he received Virgin Media Discovers development support, and in 2022, was the writer on a finalist project for RTE’s Storyland. In 2024, Harrington participated in X-Pollinator, Screen Ireland’s network for women, trans and non-binary filmmakers, along with Element Pictures’ inaugural Storyhouse Lab. He currently writes and directs for RTE’s Fair City.
Director/co-creator Janna Kemperman is an award-winning filmmaker whose latest short, Shadow, premiered at the Galway Film Fleadh and went on to screen internationally, winning awards including a special mention at DIFF and Best Cinematography at FastNet Film Festival. Kemperman also serves as a director on Fair City and on the BBC’s EastEnders.
The other projects selected for SeriesLab 2024 hail from Australia, Belgium, Croatia, Egypt, Finland, Hungary, Mexico, The Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom and the United States. The workshop is being led by Hungarian screenwriter and former HBO Hungary development executive Eszter Angyalosy.
The program consists of a workshop in early June in Leuven, Belgium, followed by a second workshop in September in Madrid. Additional online sessions will also be held in between these workshops.
SeriesLab 2024 will conclude with a pitching session at the TFL Meeting Event, TorinoFilmLab’s co-production market, scheduled for November 21st - 23rd, in Turin.
