Northern Irish actor Anthony Boyle is set to star in Skintown, produced by Keeper Pictures, and adapted from Northern Irish author Ciarán McMenamin’s novel of the same name.
Keeper Pictures will produce a film adaptation of Skintown, a novel by Northern Irish actor and author Ciarán McMenamin (Hope Street). Northern Irish actor Anthony Boyle (Masters of Air) and Josh Finan (Baby Reindeer) are set to star. Kieron J. Walsh (The Savage Eye) will direct.
Set in the mid-90s during the IRA ceasefire, the film follows the journey of two best friends trying to escape their life in a small Irish town. Immersing themselves in the world of raves, drugs and gangs the boys dream big but are thwarted by the realities of the world around them. The film is described as “a buddy movie combining the anarchy of Kneecap with the humor of Derry Girls,” and influenced by Trainspotting and Twin Town.
Skintown is produced by Yvonne Donohoe (Keeper Pictures) and Brendan J. Byrne (Cyprus Avenue Films), and is executive produced by Katie Holly of Keeper Pictures (Mr Malcom’s List, Extra Ordinary). The producers will present the project to select partners at the Cannes Film Festival.
The film is set to shoot in mid-2025 with support from Screen Ireland and development by Northern Ireland Screen. The project was backed from an early stage by film incubator Pretty____Ideas, from Visit Film’s founder Ryan Kampe.
