MUBI has acquired the Ireland/UK distribution rights to Andrea Arnold’s Bird, starring Barry Keoghan, with Volta Pictures distributing the film in Ireland.
Barry Keoghan (Saltburn) stars alongside Franz Rogowski (Passages, Great Freedom), and newcomers Nykiya Adams and Jason Buda in Bird, the latest film from director Andrea Arnold (American Honey). The film will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
Bird follows Bailey, a 12-year-old who lives with her brother and single dad in a squat in North Kent. As her dad has little time for his kids, she seeks attention and adventure elsewhere.
Volta Pictures will work with MUBI to distribute the film to Irish audiences.
Bird was shot around the Kent area, and produced by Tessa Ross and Juliette Howell for House Productions, as well as Lee Groombridge.
Financiers include BBC Film, the BFI (through National Lottery funding), Pinky Promise, FirstGen Content and Access Entertainment. Cornerstone is handling international sales and distribution, and co-repping a US sale with CAA Media Finance.
Bird will have its world premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. An Irish theatrical release date has not yet been announced.
