Scríofá sna Réaltaí
The Academy Award-qualifying Indy Shorts International Film Festival, presented by Heartland Film, has announced the selection of Irish short film Scríofá sna Réaltaí (Written In The Stars) as an Official Selection for the 2024 festival.

This prestigious recognition means that the film is eligible for the Grand Prize in its respective category, a coveted honor that could lead to Oscar qualification.

The 7th Annual Indy Shorts International Film Festival will take place July 23-28 in Indianapolis, Indiana. As the largest shorts festival in the Midwest, Indy Shorts has established itself as a premier platform for showcasing the best in short filmmaking from around the world.

Scríofá sna Réaltaí, produced by Sin É Films, tells the inspiring story of Seán, a 9-year-old neurodivergent boy who is determined to make it to center stage despite the challenges he faces. With unyielding passion and perseverance, Seán pours his heart and soul into his craft, overcoming obstacles and doubts to secure the lead role in a local play. As he delves into his character, Seán faces new challenges and must confront his self-doubt. Will he be able to overcome his struggles and shine on stage, or will self-doubt creep in and threaten his aspirations? This heartwarming film is a testament to the power of resilience and determination.

Shot on location in Conamara, Co Galway, Scríofá sna Réaltaí features performances from Ruarc Ó Confhaola, Lochlann Ó Mearáin, Tara Breathnach, and Grace Ridge. Directed by IFTA award winner Vincent Gallagher, produced by Sinéad Ní Loideáin, written by Seán Keeley, with Tomás Mac Donnacha serving as Director of Photography.

The film was commissioned by TG4 as part of the Eurovision Children's Drama Series initiative from the European Broadcasting Union. It will screen on TG4, Cúla4 in the near future.

Máire Uí Choisdealbha, Commissioning Editor of TG4, expressed her pride in the film's achievement: “TG4 is immensely proud to see 'Scríofá sna Réaltaí' receive such esteemed recognition at the 2024 Indy Shorts International Film Festival. This selection underscores the incredible talent and dedication of everyone involved in this project. The story of Seán is a powerful testament to resilience and determination, capturing the essence of what it means to overcome challenges. We are honoured to have been a part of bringing this inspiring tale to life and look forward to sharing it with audiences worldwide.”
