Ishana Shyamalan’s debut feature The Watched has wrapped production in Bray, County Wicklow, following filming in Galway.
The Watched wrapped production at 6am on Sunday, September 3rd, in Bray. Previous to filming in Bray, the production had been shooting in various locations around Galway, including outside Electric nightclub, and in Griffin's bakery which had dressed as a pet shop for the film.
The film stars Dakota Fanning (War of the Worlds) as Mina, a 28-year-old artist, as she gets stranded in a forest in western Ireland. After finding shelter, she becomes trapped alongside three strangers, stalked by mysterious creatures each night. The film also stars Georgina Campbell (Barbarian), and Olwen Fouéré (The Northman).
The Watched is the debut feature of Ishana Shyamalan, M. Night Shymalan’s daughter. She has previously directed episodes of her father’s Apple TV+ series Servant. The Watched is based on Irish author A.M. Shine’s novel of the same name, which Ishana has adapted for the screen. The film is being produced by Nimitt Mankad (Trumbo), Ashwin Rajan (Old), and M. Night Shyamalan (Signs).
The production received a waiver, or Interim Agreement, from SAG-AFTRA to continue filming during the strikes. Productions with waivers agree to the terms of the latest offer submitted by SAG-AFTRA during contract negotiations, and will also retroactively agree to whatever contract terms are ultimately achieved with the AMPTP when the strike is settled.
The Watched is set to release in June 2024.
