Bugonia, Yorgos Lanthimos’ adaptation of South Korean film Save the Green Planet, will begin shooting this summer. The film sees Lanthimos teaming up with Element Pictures, Emma Stone, and Jesse Plemons once again.
Element Pictures’ Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe will produce Bugonia, Yorgos Lanthimos’ next film following Kinds of Kindness, along with Square Peg’s Ari Aster and Lars Knudsen, Emma Stone under her Fruit Tree banner, and Miky Lee and Jerry Ko of CJ ENM. Focus Features has taken worldwide distribution rights to the film.
Bugonia follows two conspiracy-obsessed young men who kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth. This will be an English-language version of the 2003 South Korean sci-fi comedy Save the Green Planet.
As well as reteaming with frequent collaborators Element Pictures, the film will star Emma Stone (Poor Things, The Favourite, Kinds of Kindness) and Jesse Plemons (Kinds of Kindness, Killers of the Flower Moon).
Speaking to Deadline, Guiney and Lowe said: “We are so looking forward to working with the brilliant team at Focus Features and are delighted to be reuniting with Yorgos, Emma and Jesse as well as many of the great crew we have collaborated with on recent films.”
