A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight will begin filming in Titanic Studios, Belfast. The upcoming series serves as a prequel to Game of Thrones, which filmed its first eight seasons in the Belfast-based studios and across Northern Ireland.
Much like the original series, Game of Thrones spin-off A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, will film in Northern Ireland. According to the BBC, the upcoming series is set to begin filming at Titanic Studios in the next few weeks with author George RR Martin expected to make a visit to the site in July.
In April 2023, HBO announced it had ordered the show to series. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is based upon the Tales of Dunk and Egg novella trilogy written by George R.R. Martin. The upcoming prequel series is described as follows:
“A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros. Ayoung, naďve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg.”
“Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”
The show will debut in 2025, with Irish actor and former rugby player Peter Claffey (Wreck) cast as lead character, Ser Duncan.
Owen Harris (Black Mirror), will direct three out of six episodes for the first season, The Hedge Knight. Ira Parker (House of the Dragon) and Martin Parker are adapting the story for the screen, as well as serving as executive producers.
If the first season is a success, subsequent seasons will adapt the following novellas in the trilogy, The Sworn Sword and The Mystery Knight, according to author George RR Martin.
