Adapted for television by Irish writer Jo Spain, production on Mix Tape will continue in Dublin, having begun in Sydney last May.
Mix Tape is an Australian-Irish co-production, which began shooting in Sydney in May and is now underway in Dublin. Irish writer Jo Spain (Taken Down, Sanditon) has adapted the novel of the same title by Jane Sanderson for television. The upcoming series’ cast includes Mark O’Halloran (Mary & George), Helen Behan (Malpractice), Conor Sánchez (Hope Street), Jonathan Harden (Blue Lights), and Siobhan O’Kelly (The Tourist).
The upcoming series follows Alison and Daniel, two friends now living on opposite sides of the planet, Sheffield and Australia. They first meet in Sheffield in 1989, and fall in love as teenagers before life takes them in different directions. They reconnect years later through shared musical memories, wondering if they're meant to be together.
Mix Tape is produced by Aoife O’Sullivan and Tristan Orpen Lynch for Subotica and Angie Fielder and Polly Staniford for Aquarius Films. Alison Hurbert-Burns, Lana Greenhalgh and Clare Mirabello serve as executive producers alongside David Fortier, Ivan Schneeberg, Nick Nantell, and Erik Pack for Boat Rocker. Boat Rocker will handle international distribution.
Financing comes from the Foxtel Group in association with Screen Ireland and Screen Australia. The series was also financed with support from the Finnish Impact Film Fund and Screen NSW’s Made in NSW Fund
Australia’s Lucy Gaffy (Totally, Completely Fine) will direct the series. English actor Jim Sturgess (One Day) will portray Daniel, and Australian actor Teresa Palmer (The Fall Guy) will play Alison.
