RTÉ has commissioned an Irish edition of the global hit reality competition series, The Traitors.
Following the success of versions in the UK, US, and the Netherlands, Irish viewers can expect to be captivated by this psychological game of deception, trust, and betrayal.
The Traitors pits 22 strangers against each other in a remote castle, where they must play a game an imaginative game of strategy. The twist? Some players, known as the Traitors, are secretly tasked with eliminating their competitors each night without being detected.
The remaining contestants, called the Faithfuls, must work together to identify and banish the Traitors before it's too late. At stake is a prize of up to €50,000.
Daily missions will help the group add money to the prize pot, but the real challenge lies in discerning truth from lies. If any Traitor makes it to the end undetected, they will steal the entire jackpot.
The format was first developed in the Netherlands as De Verraders. The BBC’s version has won BAFTA awards and had 8 million viewers for its second season finale. Claudia Winkleman hosts the UK edition, and Alan Cumming hosts the Emmy-winning US version.
Grainne McAleer, RTÉ’s Commissioning Editor for Documentaries and Series, said: "We’re confident that Traitors Ireland will be just as thrilling. We’re looking for dynamic contestants who can outwit, out-schmooze, and outplay the others."
Kite Entertainment’s Managing Director, Darren Smith, added: "We’ve been fans of the original Dutch format and are thrilled to bring it to Irish screens. Now, we’re on the hunt for the perfect castle, cast, and host!"
Applications are now open for Irish participants over 18, with filming set for Spring 2025, at www.rte.ie/traitors. The series will air on RTÉ One and RTÉ Player.
